Believe it or not, there was once a time when teams sported pink and blue jerseys. The story of how these jerseys came to be is an interesting one, and it all starts with one man: Maurice Podoloff. Podoloff was born in Ukraine in 1888 and immigrated to the United States in 1905. He started his career in the NBA as a referee, and in 1950, he became the league’s first president. It was under Podoloff’s leadership that the NBA made the switch from black and red jerseys to pink and blue ones. The decision was met with some criticism, but Podoloff was adamant about it.
